Cultural Need To Know

• The Maldives is an Islamic country, and if you are not staying on a resort island, you should be aware of local laws and etiquette
• Alcohol is prohibited under Islamic law, and therefore, because Maafushi is a local island, the consumption of alcohol is prohibited. There is a floating bar just off the island that guests can catch a 2 min speedboat ride to in order to consume alcohol
• Visit local resorts for picture perfect cocktails, swimming and sunbathing
• Islamic law encourages modesty of dress so, nude or topless sunbathing is prohibited. Bikinis are are permitted ONLY on Bikini Beach in Maafushi - this is a main tourist beach.
• Dress conservatively when not on Bikini beach - Women shoulders to be covered, no bum shorts/ Men shouldnt walk around without a shirt on
